Vaccines for Kittens & Cats

Contact our team to create a vaccination plan for your pet.

Vaccinations are separated into two categories: core and non-core. Core vaccinations are essential for your pet’s health, whereas non-core vaccines are given based on their risk of infection. Our veterinary team will develop a vaccination plan based on your pet’s needs, protecting them against various preventable diseases.

What vaccinations does my kitten/cat need?

Our veterinary team will determine which vaccinations are appropriate for your pet based on individual factors, such as lifestyle and health status. We commonly recommend that kittens/cats be vaccinated against rabies and panleukopenia (feline distemper). Additional non-core vaccines include feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). Many of these diseases can be fatal to your pet. Preventing them is far easier and less expensive than treatment. If you’d like more information about vaccines, please schedule an appointment at 204-346-1429.

Do vaccines have side effects?

Vaccines are a safe and effective way to protect your pet against a range of harmful diseases. Depending on the specific vaccine, your pet could either be fully protected or will have less severe symptoms if they get infected. We only recommend vaccinations that have undergone extensive testing and have a long track record of effectiveness. Though rare, there are some cases where pets experience side effects. If they do, please contact us immediately. Possible side effects include:

  • Swelling at the injection site
  • Tiredness
  • Loss of appetite
  • Mild fever
  • Vomiting/diarrhea
