Weight Management for Pets

Help your pet maintain a healthy weight with our weight management program.

Learning that your pet is overweight and trying to figure out how to support their weight loss can be an overwhelming experience. Weight management isn’t only dedicated to your pet’s short-term weight loss but finding ways that support their long-term health. Obesity can shorten your pet’s lifespan, so weight management benefits your pet’s present and future self.

How do I know if my pet is at a healthy weight?

Looks can be deceiving. Many pet owners don’t realize their pet is overweight by simply looking at them since obesity in pets is quite common. Our veterinary team uses guidelines based on your pet’s metrics to determine if they are at a healthy weight. This doesn’t just consider a number on the scale but how their weight is distributed throughout their body. If you’d like to learn if your pet’s weight is healthy, please get in touch with us to book an appointment at 204-346-1429.

Why does my pet need to lose weight?

Weight loss can make a world of difference to your pet’s overall health. Pets who are obese tend to live shorter lives since they are more susceptible to certain health issues, including:

  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Arthritis
  • Kidney disease
  • Some forms of cancer

Does my pet receive a customized weight loss plan?

Weight management includes a consultation to determine how best we can support your pet through their weight loss journey. We start by examining your pet’s medical history and metrics -  including their weight - to determine a healthy weight based on their age, breed, and overall health. Weight management isn’t based on generic recommendations. We tailor your pet’s weight loss plan based on their specific needs. Depending on how your pet responds to their new regimen, we make adjustments throughout this process to ensure their health.
